The Future of Service helps people striving to overcome housing insecurity and justice involvement to build meaningful careers.

The Future of Service apprenticeship is a paid, 16 week leadership development and job training program offering real work experience in our taproom and private events to prepare apprentices for quality careers in hospitality.

A job can change a life.

Every time you order one of our beers or plan an event with us, you’re supporting an apprenticeship program for hard workers who are overcoming housing insecurity or a history with the justice system.

Thank you for drinking beer for a change.

Too many great people are not given a chance to get ahead

The Future of Service Program — designed and led by Triple Bottom Brewing — addresses an urgent need for more quality employment opportunities among justice-impacted and housing insecure communities, while also coaching businesses on how to effectively employ people with these life experiences.

Justice-impacted and housing insecure people are frequently excluded from living wage jobs in the mainstream economy. Even if employment is secured, employers lack the expertise to provide supportive employment — leading to low retention and restarting the cycle of job insecurity, poverty, and recidivism.

This systems failure is especially detrimental in Philadelphia, where an average of 25,000 people return home from incarceration each year and nearly 23% of city residents live below the poverty line. In 2023, 4,725 people in Philadelphia experienced homelessness — a 5.2% increase over the previous year. These trends contribute to an already stark racial economic divide, as the median household income citywide in 2021 was $52,899, but the median household income for Black households was only $38,289.

We believe Philadelphia’s hospitality industry can lead the fight against poverty. Our industry is all about making people feel welcome. And we believe that, with intention, we can extend that welcome to people who haven’t had a lot of opportunity but have a lot to give.

We believe everyone in every community should have the opportunity to craft something great.

We envision a new future for the service industry. One that is inclusive, equitable & prosperous for employees, employers, and community members. The future of service program lays a foundation for that future.

Meaningful Career Paths For Employees

The Apprenticeship consists of 16 weeks paid training & leadership development for people impacted by the justice system or housing insecurity. Apprentices earn key industry certifications and management skills, and receive individualized support in goal setting and launching their careers.

Each cohort supports 10-12 people.

Community of Practice For Employers

The Community of Practice recognizes that employers need support too! It offers resources and community for hospitality employers committed to building equitable and inclusive workplaces. Members get to inform the training program of the apprenticeship and meet and hire graduates. They receive ongoing support to help navigate what it means to be an employer in this industry in 2024 and beyond.

Our program is based on partnerships.

Our employment partners help us meet our apprentices and provide ongoing wraparound supports to help our team navigate barriers they face.

We are also thrilled to partner with The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society on both our curriculum and on-the-job training.

There are many ways you can support our apprentices.

As a customer, you can plan an event with us — which provides critical on the job training opportunities for our cohorts.

As an employer, you can join our Community of Practice and learn about hiring our graduates.

As a social service organization, you can team up with us to help us meet candidates for the apprenticeship, or provide wraparound supports.

As a community member, you can contribute your dollars to support apprentices on their career journeys.
